Firefighting does not end when the flames are out. Wallaroo Bush Fire Brigade volunteers can return from incidents carrying smoke, soot and other contaminants on their skin and protective clothing, creating health risks for themselves and their families. The station upgrade will add suitable showers and washing machines so crews can decontaminate before travelling home. A grant from the Foundation will fund these facilities, reducing the chance of hazardous residue entering vehicles and homes. By supporting safer hygiene after callouts, the project will protect volunteer firefighters’ wellbeing, give families reassurance and help the brigade continue serving its community with confidence.
