Anyone who loves to read knows that books can be a friend, an escape, an opportunity to learn something new, to reconnect with a story from your past, to not feel alone. The Footpath Library provides a weekly service in Sydney encouraging reading and connection through books for people experiencing homelessness. Sarah Garnett, founder of The Footpath Library, says that many of her clients say that a book is more important to them than a meal. In addition to high quality books, the weekly service provides pens, notepads, reading glasses and tea and coffee to encourage social connection.
