On the road, the first person at a crash may be another driver. St John Ambulance Australia’s Learner Driver First Aid program gives young ACT drivers free, practical training to respond before emergency services arrive. In around 30 minutes, participants learn to check an airway, control bleeding, treat broken bones and perform CPR, building confidence to act when every minute matters. A Foundation grant will expand the program, helping learner drivers gain life-saving knowledge. By preparing a new generation to intervene safely at roadside emergencies, the initiative will strengthen community response and improve outcomes after a crash throughout the ACT.
