At Southern Illawarra Men’s Shed, limited workshop space means timber and other materials must be stored on a mezzanine reached by a steep, narrow attic ladder. For members, many of whom are older, retrieving stock can create avoidable risks while restricting safe use of the workshop. A Foundation grant will replace the ladder with a staircase and install a material hoist, making access and handling safer and more practical. The upgrade will reduce injury risk, improve workflow and help members continue woodworking, metalworking and community projects in a supportive environment that promotes skills, connection, purpose and wellbeing for local men.
