As they approach adulthood, Year 10 boys at Kiama High School are invited to step beyond familiar routines and consider the kind of men they want to become. Building Young Men takes around 14 participants on a 16-week journey shaped by the traditional rites of passage stages: separation, challenge and return. Supported by an IMB Bank Community Foundation grant, local mentors guide practical activities, group conversations, a 24-hour challenge and an overnight camp. The experience develops emotional intelligence, honesty, respect, resilience and thoughtful decision-making. Participants return with stronger relationships, greater self-belief and a clearer sense of responsibility to their community.
