When cancer treatment is far from home, simply getting to an appointment can become a burden. Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation’s Removing Barriers to Cancer Treatment project will strengthen its free transport service across the Hunter, covering treatment, specialist consultations, check-ups and scans. Trained volunteer drivers provide dependable journeys that ease the practical and emotional pressure of travel. Support can be arranged for one appointment or continue over several months, and a family member or friend may travel with the passenger. Expanding the service will help prevent missed appointments, reduce isolation and improve access to vital care when it is needed.
