FoodFilled’s Rescue Engine project will train 50 new volunteers to expand its community-powered food rescue network across Melbourne. Volunteers collect surplus food from local supermarkets, cafés, bakeries and other retailers, then deliver it directly to nearby food relief agencies supporting people experiencing food insecurity. Operating seven days a week, including weekends and public holidays, the service keeps quality food out of landfill while helping neighbours in need. Foundation funding will build volunteer capacity, strengthen FoodFilled’s localised redistribution model and enable an estimated 100,000 additional meals for Victorians facing growing cost-of-living pressures and hardship across the wider Melbourne community each year.
