Healthy hearing habits can begin in the classroom. Deaf Victoria’s School Hearing Screening and Safe Listening Education Pilot will bring free hearing checks and engaging prevention education directly into Victorian schools. Children will learn how everyday sound exposure can affect hearing, how to listen safely and when to seek support, while screening may identify concerns earlier. Supported by an IMB Bank Community Foundation grant, the pilot addresses a gap beyond newborn screening, with no statewide school-based hearing screening or Safe Listening program currently operating. Combining early identification with practical education will help protect lifelong hearing, improve wellbeing and make hearing health accessible.
