Australian’s traditionally have not been huge fans of Halloween but with Gen Y now with young kids of their own and inspired by American Pop culture are more closely embracing some classic neighbourhood Trick or Treating.
Venues are embracing the festivities with events both in Sydney and Wollongong if Trick or Treating just isn’t your thing but you feel like getting in the spirit of things.
Hijinks - Darling Harbour, Sydney
Hijinks will be Halloween-themed this month and, as well as completing challenges like ‘take a selfie with a mermaid’, there will be a Frankenstein makeover workshop, a haunted photo booth, DJs, and voodoo magic tricks. Thu Oct 30.
Halloween at the Argyle – The Rocks, Sydney
Expect a spellbinding weekend as the Argyle goes all out with two haunted-house Halloween parties. Guests on both nights will find freak entertainers, fire breathers, stilt walkers, and face painters. Oct 31 & Nov 1.
The Orpheum - Cremorne, Sydney
A Very Parkside Halloween with Harvey Sutherland, Andy Hart & more – Towradgi, Wollongong
The Canberra Zombie Walk – Regatta Point, Canberra
The zombie walk involves participants dressing as zombies and the undead, who then limp, shuffle and walk through the city streets and malls. The walk is purely for fun and for those who enjoy dressing up, and those with a love of brains - we are seeking to raise as much awareness and funds for the Brain Foundation. Sat 31 October, 3.30pm.
And if you would like to welcome Trick or Treaters or opt out all together, we have created some super cute printables to ensure you spend Halloween the way you want to. Just hang your preference on your letterbox or front door.
